My ears are burning from all of the harmony I am learning from the courses
Loved it - best site I've seen
Hi to Dick Grove and everybody that works with Dick. Keep up the great job you're doing dick. The first time i went to your school and took the vip course it changed my life completely as a singer and musician. I had gone to Juilliard, Berkley correspondence course, took porivate lessons with George Russell, dave Toffani(Gerry Mulligan's Alto sax man)etc. but that day when i started the vip course in your school changed my whole musical life.it was as if i was being taken away from my eyes the blinfold that was imhibiting me as a musician. music was not a puzzle anymore and i thank god every day for Dick Grove. Sincerely, Rene E. arauz
The site has improved a great deal than the previous one. It is easy to surf through the material and one can find the information you are looking for. With the endorsements included, the DGSWW is clearly flashing out its precious role it deserves in music education. The courses are easy to understand and follow. Most importantly, they are professionally prepared and designed to totally fulfill ones needs on getting rid of their gaps in their music education. Consultation by email is easy and one gets instant reply, information and emotional support when he feels mixed up. Thanks for Dick and Dana for their existence in this world. This is a must course for every musician or ones who are serious about it. Musically
This site is a wonderful idea. It helps us to know in detail the content of the different courses you offer. This helps me in making a decision of the course that is best for my needs.
Maestro Dick, This is a great improvement from the last site you had. It was easy to navigate through and the copy was very understandable. I still have a link on my website to yours and it will remain there. I believe your methods of teaching and your understanding of how all this information is to be absorbed is the key to your success with the school. One suggestion, Try and load some of your compositions so people can hear your work. This can be done through a number of different programs such as Shockwave or Cresendo. Ask your webmaster about adding sound to the Website. Great Website I'll be talking to you soon!!!
Happy New Year, New York Nick Who Dat Music Productions www.whodat.com
The "One Shot Video Series" rates as one of the most educational types of material out there. I have read book after book on composing and arranging but nothing compares to "The Keys to Pro Arranging Live or Midi". As a teacher, I can only say this is a must for anyone wanting to get better in their field of writing. Ron Mollinga Teacher/Band Arranger

Hi Dick-Just received lesson 4 of Jazz Keyboard today and it looks like it will keep me off the streets for a while-ha. Dig your site!As they say "cool". Man, I thought that went out thirty years ago,so I guess you can tell where I'm coming from! Incedentally,Dick,I never received lesson 3 of this series-seems there was a mixup on my address or something- would appreciate receiving it(19982 Avenida Puesta Del Sol,Yorba Linda CA 92886)Thanks. My wife retires end of March this year and we are relocating to Pahrump NV.We are building a house there and are really excited about getting out of the rat race in Orange County. I just turned 72(gawd)this Dec.I don't do gigs anymore-just too hard for this old bod,but I'll tell you what,Dick,I still "dick" around on the piano couple hours a day.I am a real keyboard junkie and you can bet I'll be playing some blues when they lower the lid!

I'm with Rene Arauz. I too thank God every day for Dick Grove and all that I'm learning from the school. It's the most profound, and most fun teaching I've ever had and I'm proud to be a student.
Your courses seem very promising. Hopefully when I get my lessons I can really benefit from them.
Hi Dick, How are you? I hope things are going well for you. Will I see you at NAMM this year? I will be playing at the Taylor booth. My CD" BLUE PLANET" will be out in March. GREAT JOB ON YOUR WEB PAGE DICK.I THINK YOU COULD OFFER SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT COURSES IF YOU WANTED TO. I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR "COACH" LIKE STYLE OF TEACHING.YOUR SCHOOL WITHOUT WALLS CONCEPT OF TRAINING IS JUST WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR.THANKS AGAIN.
Dick: Great web- page. I'm still working through your CAP and Keyboard courses, which have improved all areas of my musicianship. I have been busy with the requirements of my new job as a public school music teacher as well as with my own playing and private teaching studio. I have also moved and have a new address and phone number. The computer thing is also new to me! Hope to be corresponding with you (via fax) on the arranging assignments once I know my way around the computer a little better! - Michael Cammarata, Ass't music director "The Moment of Truth Show" 50 Trumbull St. Watertown CT 06795
Hi Dick! I just stumbled upon your great web page. I've enjoyed your courses (musicianship, CAP and Jazz Piano) and I would definitely recommend them to any musician. Although I have a Bacelor of Science in Music Education, I have to say that I owe my well- tuned ears to the thorough preperation I recieved from your courses. I'm looking forward to continuing with CAP and Jazz piano 2. I've been busy with my gigs (performing, private teaching and public school teaching) as well moving into my new home and setting up my studio, but I'm now ready to crack the books again. - Michael Cammarata, Ass't Musical Director, The Moment of Truth Show/ Masterpiece 957157128@ Worldnet.att.net
Well thought out web site. Course descriptions are easy to understand and clearly state course objectives.
This is Jill in Atl., GA. Are humans really capable of understanding the components in chapter 3(See It... Pt. 1)? This looks like it's gonna hurt. I'll stare at the video a third time before screaming for help. Thanks for the lovely torture. I'm gigging this afternoon. See ya. :)
Hi Dick,
It's Jill in Atl. Love your new site. One can tell alot of thought and energy went into it's preparation. Listen, I've got a gig in a few minutes so I'll be brief. Is chapt. 3 in the See it... pt. I really something I can learn? :) I've been searching for a way to learn this stuff. ThH fellas can talk about it but they haven't been able to break it down into learnable chunks. I'll stare at the video until I crack this nut. I have faith. This is the best program that I have found on the market. Thank you!
I really like your web sight. It provides alot of information, that i can use, which is why i like it.
I really like this web sight. It's real neat. Im learning alot,
Awesome site. very informative, colorful, and makes the reader want to be a part of this organization.
I think the concept of a school without walls is an excellent one for those of us who cannot go back to school because of life commitments. I find that studying on my own is haphazard to say the least. A way of structuring study would be a welcome relief.
Looks like a good website. It was nice talking to you on the phone earlier today. Your student, Peter B. Allen 213-467-5216 e-mail
I saw the add for your website in Keyboard Magazine and decided to log on and check it out. I found it very detailed and easy to move around within the site. From looking at the information provided I am now thinking of enrolling in one of Dick's courses. I agree that a school without walls is a fine idea.

Dear Dick, Today is the 29th Jan 1998. I open up my e-mail after a long time of neglect and I'm pleasantly surprised to receive your personalised e-mail to me. Thank you for keeping in touch. In fact, I've half forgotten that I had sent in my comments after receiving your course syllabus in Singapore (must have been a few months back). I go into your website and the information on your course syllabus is overwhelming and the website itself - just cool ! Naturally I've registered for the free music notes and would appreciate any back dated ones I've missed out as of today.Hereafter I will be a regular mail opener to be constantly in touch with what's going on. Best regards, Steven Chong

Great site Dick. Once again, you astound me with your thorough, clarity of vision and acheivement. You are always an inspiration D Goldblatt
This looks like an amazing educational possibility for someone like myself.Having never been to an actual "music' school, I always felt cheated. While working part-time as an entertainer has helped keep me on my toes, this could help complete the holes in my knowledge of theory,harmony/melody, and arrangement(never anything larger than a standard 4-piece )-Jimmy Moody
Dick, Going through the CAP (Composing and Arranging Program) with in 1991 was the best thing I ever did for my music career. It has enhanced not only my writing and arranging skills, but keyboard and vocals too. In fact, I was just hired as the music director for a great church in Moorpark CA, BECAUSE of my orchestration skills. Good luck on the School Without Walls! The Web is a great medium for spreading the word. I'll pass your URL on to all my music cohorts, now that I've found you again. May God richly bless you in all your work.

Mr. Grove: I visited you at the Grove School in Studio City many years ago when I was looking for graduate schools in music. I ended up going somewhere else, but I've always regretted not going to the Grove School. I'm a doctoral student at NYU now, as well as a high school jazz band/theory/comp. teacher. I was so sad to see that you closed the school, because I know it was one of a kind in music education. I'm thrilled, however, to see you brought your concepts online. You always were ahead of your time! I'm contemplating starting a performing arts school (both online and onsite) in Italy. I've been to Italy over a dozen times, and I think the market is there for a fine contemporary music school. I was just wondering what you thought about this idea. I'd like to offer real-time online seminars as well. Is this crazy? With much admiration and respect..Lou Spagnola (trumpet player from Philadelphia)
Your idea is fantastic. I am an ex student of your correspondence course. I did not finish it. But your books and cass. have been the most valuable help I have ever received from one source.Words cannot describe how much musical help you have been to me. I am thinking of starting again with you.I did visit your school and your publishing department. Regards to TERRY JANOW if he is still with you.
Dear Dick, I'm a guitarist in the Granada Hills High school jazz band and I just wanted to say that we love your songs. Our two favorites are Good AND Plenty. In our free time we get smashed and play Ripped! Rock on Dick! We love you!
This is what I've been waiting for! I've always hated classroom drudgery, and none of my friends ever got what they expected out of going to Music School. I'm looking forward to signing up soon.

Hi Dick, I went through CAP in 1980 and was hired by Les Brown (13 years) as soon as I graduated. Conducted for Mizi Gaynor for a year and now teach at Humboldt State. Your method is the best I've ever seen and I tell that to everyone. I'm still playing jazz piano and am very busy. I knew you would be doing something innovative like this. Great to see you still active.

I'm impressed with your program and look forward to study with you.
Marvellous.Keep it up!
Because many friends told me, time ago I recive a book from your school. Really, I try to convince my grand doughter to follow you program, it is the best in the world. Sorry, I forget my english. Sincerely,
My father studied there 10 years ago and he says there´s no better teacher than Dick Grove. I'm a musician also, and when I see his books I understand why he keeps saying that all the times I study with him, he´s so clear that you´ll understand things that you couldn´t understand because it was difficult, Dick Grove is the easyest way to be a great musician, Congratulations to all at Dick....you´re doin´great.

I am a graduate of both the Songwriting and the Keyboard programs of the (physical in LA) Grove School of Music. My husband, Andy Carlson, graduated from the Instrumental program. We met in Rob McConnell's band the year he was teaching there. We are both very sad to hear of Dick's passing. He and the other faculty at the school gave us insight and knowledge that will last us a lifetime. I am wondering if anyone has created or plans to create a list of alumni for those who want to get in touch with old classmates. Email me with info if you have it: . Thanks! Aloha! My name is Siuai Laufou. I am a graduate of the Grove School of Music, Composition & Arranging Program. I quite sadden to hear the passing of our Teacher and Mentor. Dick is a special individual. In one of the meeting I had with him, he says to me that, "I don't have to know everything about music to begin with ---but rather start from what I know and can do best about music. From this point on, you will soon find out that I could learn and perform and create just about anything musical.
I am now working as a Band Director at Damien Memorial High School in Honolulu. I am still active as an Arranger and Composer. I have arranged music for a Half-Time Show at the Holiday Bowl football games in San Diego at the Jack Murphy Stadium. Here in Hawaii, I have written for high school groups and the Honolulu Community Concert Band. I hope to some of my music published soon. I am greatful for the opportunity study with Dick Grove. I have taken his approach and made me a better creative person. After Grove School I obtained a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from Los Angeles State University. Believe me, "Life much easier, funner, and alost more musical during my Masters Degree studies." I highly recommend the Dick Grove's method because it does makes you think and look and hear and write music from a new and personal perspective. Keep up the good work I am CAP-Fully your,

I studied at the Grove school in 86-87, I enjoyed it very much. I didnt know Dick passed on, Im sorry to hear that. He was a brilliant and funny man, I owe all my theory knowledge to him.
Dana, I was a student at Dick Grove's School in Studio City from '79-81. I heard about Dick's passing a few months ago, and am very saddened. This was a great man. His greatness was in many areas. First and most obviously was his total and complete command of the the parameters of music and his ability to communicate it. Inside out- upside down. Bar none, he was the greatest music teacher I have ever known, and probably the greatest of the twentieth century. He simplified the complex. He showed structure in everything musical. He was also a great teacher, regardless of subject. He understood his subject in a way that only a few teachers understand theirs. How many teachers have the total command of their materials, instantly available - only a few. And in subjects as complex as musc - hardly any. He was a great teacher. Dick was a great man, and a good friend. I was not the best student or musician that ever went to his school. I was probably one of the worst CAP students on record. I had a tremendously difficult time catching the subjects quickly enough, or putting it together. Musically I was a slow learner. Eventually though I caught on. But Dick taught me much more than music. In showing me how music works, his method, and it's comprehensive view, from routines on the grand plan, to train wrecks in the details, dick taught me about everything. There is a grand routine that makes it all fit in its place in life, there are the changes that happen in key, pivoting along certain paths to others keys, and the importance of every single note, every moment. And he taght me this in a way which I will never forget. The intensity, the demands, the compression of everything in such short bursts of time. Total immersion - coupled with a lightheartedness that made us all realize that it's all either making music... or selling shoes. It didn't really matter. His part was the music. I've gone on to bigger, and hopefully better, things from my youthful quest for a life in music. But, there are very few days that go by that I don't use something that I learned with Dick. I few months ago, after moving back west from the Rockies again, I went to the web, hoping to find the school. The last time I saw Dick was in the early 90's. I was on a business trip to LA, called, and he invited me over to the new school in Van Nuys to see it. I went by to check it out. What a great place. dick was absolutely himself. I promised myself that if I ever had the time and resources to drop another year I would return. I looked on the web to find the school and found your site. It was here that I found out that Dick was gone, and that he and his wife ahd moved to Las Vegas a few years before he died. It turns out that I was living in Las Vegas for part of the time I think he was there, but I'm not sure. i wish I had kept up a bit closer since I saw him last. All of us who spent any time with this man will miss him. I know I do.

Hi, I am from China! Nice to have checked this wonderful web-site!
I Think that this program will be one that I am going to greatly benefit from.
THank You jp Jones
Hey there Dick and Dana! Been a while and I thought that I would say that I am planning to enroll in another course very soon. The web site is great! I am so glad that I got what I paid for in the Beyond Chops course...I still think it was THE most important thing in my music education. I had literally wasted thousands on books, videos and lessons and with Dana's course and 6 months of practice...I found playing the guitar to be fun, instead of a headache! Can't wait to become a student again.
Sincerely, Aaron Duke
Dear Dick: Wherever you are... I am still missing you. my music sense was born when I met you. I ´m still larning from you and I will always be taking you whit me... in the deeper area of my heart. I never met anybody else who care so much about sharing his knowlege whit other people as you did. You will live forever, and for me... you are still here. God bless you.

I had the honor of having Dick as the instructor for all of my harmony and composition classes when his school was still in North Hollywood on ventura Blvd. I learned more about music technically and the music business than I ever thought possible. That training still serves me will today--- Neal DeBiasio
Sorry to hear that Dick is no longer with us.We are both grads from the school in Van Nuys 1990-92.We think back with fond memories to our time there. It was one of the saddest days when the school went bankrupt......The knowledge that we got has kept us busy in the music world and has changed both of our lives. We think Dick has left his mark and will never be forgotten. Mike Stock, Camilla Bjornes
Would like to get in touch with fellow students of my composition and arranging class of '83 (.....fond memories)

Its great to read about the school and it´s alumnies after some time. It´s also a good way of keeping track to the wonderful musicians of the cap years 1991 -.1992 including my Bakersfield interlude. After almost ten years of school I am working in a theater in Germany writing music for play and arranging them for band and orchestra, and the feeling is still Groovian meaning: it´s not easy but once you´ve done it you feel mile high like in the recording studio where Duke would could cut the recordings. I give my love to all the exstudents and the program and the people who are continuing teaching and studying. Love Joachim Kuipers , Berlin, Germany
How can I forget. I'll keep Grove school forever in my heart. Arrivederci Dick Probably right now you are writing charts for the Iper big band up there in heaven. Love Pippo Guarnera
I am a CAP graduate in 1986 from Dick's School in Van Nuys. He is a very special man with so much talent in music education. His methodology is unique and effective. God Bless You Dick.
David Hamrell VIP 1980 CAP 1982 DGMW 1978-9 Hello Dick great you're happenin' on the web. Ditto everyone's comments and kudos. Drop a line sometime, I'll do the same.
